Whimsical Wednesday

Whew! Whimsical Wednesday!!

The Selection by Kiera Cass
Pages: 339

For thirty-five girls, the Selection is the chance of a lifetime. The opportunity to escape the life laid out for them since birth. To be swept up in a world of glittering gowns and priceless jewels. To live in a palace and compete for the heart of gorgeous Prince Maxon.
But for America Singer, being Selected is a nightmare. It means turning her back on her secret love with Aspen, who is a caste below her. Leaving her home to enter a fierce competition for a crown she doesn't want. Living in a palace that is constantly threatened by violent rebel attacks.
Then America meets Prince Maxon. Gradually, she starts to question all the plans she's made for herself—and realizes that the life she's always dreamed of may not compare to a future she never imagined.

My Thoughts
To be honest, I did not want to read this book. Amazon kept sending me emails and this was on many of them. My sister would bug me to no end to read this book. Finally, I caved. and I wish I had earlier. I finished this book in 2 days. The Elite(The 2nd Book of this series) in 1 day and I've recently bought the 3rd book, The One. This book is set in the future after the destruction of our nation. In comes the birth of another nation in its place, Illea. This new country is set up with caste and a monarchy. I loved how this new country was utterly corrupt, but even though it had its flaws I found myself hoping everything for the country would get better. Unlike in the Hunger Games or Divergent I wanted nothing but the government to be brought down. In the Selection, you pull for Maxon to become King so he could bring justice, peace, and a new sense of loyalty to the country. America is the perfect girl for this, even though she screws up on multiple occasions. You might find yourself frustrated with her, she's constantly going on impulse. She says and does what she wants without thinking. I found myself irritated, but completely proud of her, like most of the characters were in the book. Oh and of course this book is about love. Not only is there the fight for love between 35 other woman, America puts herself in the situation that she has to choose between two men. Aspen, her secret boyfriend from when she wasn't in the Selection, or Maxon, the handsome prince who truly loves her. (I'm totally going for Maxon!) If you're looking for something like the Hunger Games, this is definitely it with a girly twist! I love it!

Memorable Mondays!

Mmm Memorable Mondays!

Then she meets Caleb.
Maggie is a seventeen year old girl who's had a bad year. She was smart and on track, but her mom left, her dad is depressed, she's graduating, barely, and her boyfriend of almost three years dumped her for a college football scholarship. Lately she thinks life is all about hanging on by a thread and is gripping tight with everything she has.

She saves his life and instantly knows there's something about him that's intriguing, but she's supposed to be on her way to a date with his cousin. Things change when they touch, sparks ignite. Literally.

They imprint with each other and she sees their future life together flash before her eyes. She learns that not only is she his soul mate, and can feel his heartbeat in her chest, but there is a whole other world of people with gifts and abilities that she never knew existed. She herself is experiencing supernatural changes unlike anything she's ever felt before and she needs the touch of his skin to survive. Now, not only has her dad come out of his depression to be a father again, and a pain as well, but Caleb's enemies know he's imprinted and are after Maggie to stop them both from gaining their abilities and take her from him.

Can Caleb save her or will they be forced to live without each other after just finding one another?

My Thoughts
First, this is a mixture of Whimsical Wednesdays and Memorable Mondays. I LOVE THIS BOOK! Shelly Crane is by far one of my all time favorite authors! It was sort of depressing at first, I thought it was going to be another sappy love story. The girl has a bad life and in comes the boy of her dreams, and she's won over. Okay, it was a little like that, but there was a reason behind it, and drama. Who doesn't love drama in a book? Caleb is the perfect guy. Okay, not completely, but that's what makes him perfect. I hate when the guys are the answers to everything, they're not. They sure do help, but they're not the answers to life. Anyways, Shelly Crane does not make Caleb that way. Caleb and Maggie are both dependent on one another. One without the other simply doesn't work. It's a teamwork. Ones not stronger. They're stronger together. There are 2 great things about this book! 1. It's a series! 2. It might turn into a tv show!!!!!! To help support this visit Shelly Crane.

Flirty Fridays!

Before we start FF, I wanted to apologize for not posting yet, but I've come to the decision to not post on Tuesdays or Thursdays. Lately, I've been ridiculously busy. And stressing because I haven't posted, but hopefully by giving myself some days to think about the next post they will be even better! (:
NOW! Let's get started on Flirty Fridays!! WOO HOOO!

Wide Awake by Shelly Crane
Pages :276

A YA LOVE story about a girl who has her life turned upside down.
A girl.A coma.A life she can't remember. When Emma Walker wakes up in the hospital with no knowledge of how she got there, she learns that she's been in a coma for six months. Strangers show up and claim to be her parents, but she can't remember them. She can't remember anyone. Not her friends, not even her boyfriend. Even though she can't remember, everyone wants her to just pick up where she left off, but what she learns about the 'old her' makes her start to wish she'd never woken up. Her boyfriend breaks up with the new girl he's dating to be with her, her parents want her to start planning for college, her friends want their leader back, and her physical therapist with the hazel eyes keeps his distance to save his position at the hospital. Will she ever feel like she recognizes the girl in the mirror?

My Thoughts
Wide Awake was one of those books you kinda had to grow to love. Now, let me explain, I had mixed emotions about her being in a coma and then her parents wanting to put her back into her old mold. It was weird. and I was thanking God that my parents would never be like that. But you do have to remember books are not supposed to be hundred percent realistic. Don't even get me started on the love interest! Wooo! He was one of those boys you just had to love! He was different, caring yet dangerous! We all want some type of guy like that, well I know I do! (: This book is a little more on the serious side, Shelly Crane is never one to shy away from serious topics. She's an exquisite writer! (Wow! Big word!) This book may not be for everyone, but if you're looking for a serious/love story this is it. I put this under Flirty Friday because the flirting in this book had me blushing!

Whimsical Wednesday

Yay! I love Whimsical Wednesday

Becoming Alpha by Aileen Erin
Pages: 406

One stupid party. One stupid boy. One stupid kiss. And my life was virtually over.
Tessa McCaide has a unique talent for getting into trouble. Then again, it isn’t easy for a girl with visions to ignore what she sees. Luckily Tessa and her family are leaving California and moving halfway across the country, giving her the perfect opportunity to leave her reputation as “Freaky Tessa” behind.
But Tessa doesn’t realize that kissing the wrong guy in her new Texas town could land her in far more trouble than she ever imagined. Like being forced to attend St. Ailbe’s Academy, a secret boarding school for werewolves.
Even if the wrong guy did accidentally turn her into one of “them” and doom her to attending the weirdest high school ever, Tessa can’t help her growing attraction to the mysterious Dastien Laurent.
When vampires attack St. Alibe’s and her visions pinpoint an enemy in their midst, Tessa realizes that boy drama and her newfound canine tendencies might just be the least of her problems.

My Thoughts
Quick little apology! Sorry I didn't post yesterday! From the moment I woke up I was busy and could not get my hands on a computer. It sucked! All I wanted to do was tell yall about my Terrible Tuesday book, but that will have to wait for next week.
So back to Whimsical Wednesday! I promise next WW will not be about wolves. I'm just obsessed with them. You might say all of the wolves books are the same, but each one has something unique about it! Somethings changed. Somethings added. When I first started reading this book the first thought that came into my mind was, FROZEN!! Tessa wore gloves and wouldn't touch anyone! Nooo..she would't freeze anything, but she can read your mind and thoughts of the person she touches. Oh and she could touch inanimate objects and get 'memories' from them. It was neat! To be honest, I did not like how Tessa and Dastien mated. It was not cute. It was actually disturbing. Her first kiss and something bad happens. Talk about traumatizing. One of the best qualities about this books is Tessa's Latina! *Throws my L in the air* She is straight up reppin' ! Yes, I'm being totally serious! (; If you're a latina read this book just because, ya feel me!

Memorable Mondays!!

Mmm Memorable Mondays!

Crush by Lacey Weatherford
Pages: 333

Cami Wimberley has a plan, and that plan includes no room for boys—especially the big time party animal, Hunter Wilder, no matter how handsome and charismatic he is. She’s beautiful, a senior, extremely talented, gets good grades, and is working her way toward her dream college to be a musical theater major. Everything is perfect.

Hunter Wilder does not want a girlfriend—that would complicate his life way too much right now. He especially doesn’t want this girl, Miss-Goody-Two-Shoes, so how come he can’t keep his eyes off her? He tries to keep her at arms length, but fate seems to keep pushing them together. Before long, it’s obvious to everyone they’re crushing on each other.

As sparks begin to fly, Hunter finds himself sinking deeper and deeper into hot water. Soon he’s scrambling to keep Cami from discovering his dark secret—one that can destroy their entire relationship.

My Thoughts

Honestly the above blurb does not do this book any justice. It's kind of misleading, but the book was free on Amazon so what the hay? Just get it. To start off, both Cami and Hunter had this odd attraction. At first, I thought this book was a waste of time and then it had a HUGE plot twist! It became something extremely boring, and out there to wowzers!! Thank God! I got this book! I really don't want to tell much because it will ruin the book! This is a pretty short review, but this book is so interesting! Please, Please, Please get this book!!

Flirty Fridays!

Let's get started on this weeks Flirty Friday!

There's Danny. Danny is a golden boy in every way. He has dreamy blue eyes and blonde hair that always looks perfect, even when it’s windblown or been stuck under a football helmet. He’s the boy every girl crushes on. The boy I get into trouble with, the boy I fight with, the hot quarterback no girl can resist, not even me. Being with Danny is like being on an adventure. He has a bright, contagious smile and abs to die for. He’s pretty much irresistible.
Equally crush worthy is Phillip. Adorable, sweet Phillip, who I have known since birth.  Phillip has dark hair, a perfect smile, brown eyes, and the sexiest voice I have ever heard. He’s the boy I talk to every night before I go to sleep. The boy who rescues me, the boy who can read my mind, the boy who is always there for me, the boy who tries to keep me out of trouble, the boy who irritatingly keeps getting hotter, and whose strong arms always seem to find their way around me.  And when he gives me that grin, I can never say no.
One boy will give me my very first kiss.
One boy will teach me to make out.
One boy will take me to prom.
And finally, one boy will ask me to marry him.
They will both be my best friends.
But only one of them will be the boy I fall in love with.
Only one of them is That Boy.

That Boy by Jillian Dodd
Pages: 303

You know, being friends with two cute boys does have its benefits.

My Thoughts
I did not realize this book was 303 pages! It was such a fast read! Danny is the ultimate stud muffin (oh yes, I did say stud muffin!) but Philip was the steady person in her life and her first love. I will always stick with the first love! (I'm a romantic!) It was neat how each of them had their own relationships but yet still had a great relationship individually. Jillian Dudd did a fantastic job. I need to read more books of hers. The only thing I didn't like was it was so back and forth. I like a little bit of back and forth, but when the whole book is that way, it's hard to keep up. One minute she's with Danny and the next with Philip, or with someone else. It was frustrating. But I will read it again! I swear every time I write a new review I want to go and read every single book and more!

P.S. This is a series! So it doesn't just end there.

Thoughtful Thursdays!

Time to think for Thoughtful Thursday!!

Reason to Breathe by Rebecca Donovan
Pages: 466

"No one tried to get involved with me, and I kept to myself. This was the place where everything was supposed to be safe and easy. How could Evan Mathews unravel my constant universe in just one day?"
In the affluent town of Weslyn, Connecticut, where most people worry about what to be seen in and who to be seen with, Emma Thomas would rather not be seen at all. She’s more concerned with feigning perfection—pulling down her sleeves to conceal the bruises, not wanting anyone to know how far from perfect her life truly is. Without expecting it, she finds love. It challenges her to recognize her own worth―at the risk of revealing the terrible secret she’s desperate to hide.
One girl’s story of life-changing love, unspeakable cruelty, and her precarious grasp of hope: Reason to Breathe is the first installment of the acclaimed Breathing Series.

My Thoughts
OH. MY. GOSH. I love this book! Before I start to rave on and on about how much I love this book, I will warn you, this book contains some serious issues. Rebecca Donovan does not shy away from rough topics. It was one of my first serious book where I read so much hurt, anger, and sadness. (I usually go for the fairy tale romance!) I could not put down this book, even now thinking about it I want to put every thing down and pull it out. Evan Matthews is seriously the best hero! He stuck with her through it all. But he did come out of no where, so that was weird. I can forgive that because he was such an outstanding guy! (Please be my book boyfriend!) The topics were hard like I said early, but Rebecca wrote them so great. I felt every emotion she was trying to bring out of me! I probably cried about 3x It was that well written! Set aside a time so you can sit down and read this book in one sitting! You won't want to get up!

Whimsical Wednesdays!

Yay! Whimsical Wednesday!
Before tonight Cassie Tate’s biggest concerns were whether she could pass Algebra and how she was going to keep Elora, her best friend, from dressing her in a skimpy fairy costume for Halloween. Her feet were firmly planted in suburban reality and she had no reason to believe her life would be anything but that of a typical teenager. That is until tonight, when Cassie saw something that no human was ever supposed to see; in the blink of an eye she was thrown into the world of the Light and Dark Elves.
He comes from a realm where light and dark have fought for millennia. He is of a race known to humans only in myths and legends. The darkness that lives inside him is a part of both who and what he is and it makes him the most gifted spy and assassin in the history of his time. His life is not his own; he lives in the service of the Dark Elf King. He slays who he must, has mercy on no one, is relentless in his hunt, and never tires of seeing his prey fall. He is Triktapic, assassin, spy, most feared of the Dark Elves.
Now, in the midst of his King’s complicated plans to expand the Dark Elves’ holdings into the mortal realm, for the first time, Trik finds his loyalties divided. For no Elf, Dark or Light, can turn away from their Chosen.
Unbeknownst to the mortal realm, the battle between Light and Dark is being brought to their doorstep. The only one who can keep it at bay holds darkness in his heart like a lover, and the one who can sway that heart must decide if she can look beyond his black past, beyond his evil nature and see the man he is destined to be.
The questions must be asked, does love really cover a multitude of sins? Can true love actually conquer all or will his darkness consume those around him until all that stands is an assassin with the blood of the mortal realm on his hands?

Elfin by Quinn Loftis
Pages: 389

Synopsis:

My Thoughts
I should just call Wednesdays Quinn Loftis Wednesdays! She has become one of my favorite authors! I love each and every one of her characters! Elfin was another addition to my Quinn Loftis addiction. I'm pretty sure I finished this book in a day. I just couldn't put it down, much like all of her books. Triktapic was so stinking cute! Talk about real alpha elf! She wrote his character out perfectly! I loved how she put in the struggle of relationships when you don't want to change the person, but at the same time knows your significant other is going to be better off if they would just change. *snickers* Cassie is torn on her feelings for him. I mean who could love someone who tortured people right? But, obviously it all works out! I kept on reading it and thinking when is this going to end, it has so much in it. In a good way! I hate when books finish fast and then you have to wait for the sequel. There is a cliffhanger, but just buy the next book. It's totally worth it!

Terrible Tuesdays!

Ugh Terrible Tuesdays..

Devour by Shelly Crane
Pages: 273

Clara has it all. A wrestling star boyfriend, popular friends, all the right school activities...pretty much a perfect life...up until her parents died. Now she lives with the Pastor and his family and though they take good care of her, she feels alone. Then her boyfriend, Tate, starts to show signs of trouble when a new guy, Eli, comes to town. Clara is fascinated with him but hides it until something happens. Eli confesses to her that she gives him something he's never had before...something he needs. Everything is about to change for this normal, pretty, popular girl in a supernatural way.

My Thoughts
Honestly, I hate terrible Tuesdays. All books have their flaws, but that's because nothing is perfect. Can I get an amen? *Choir all screams AMEN!* When I say terrible, I just mean it wasn't my style. Devour was an interesting read. It definitely took an interesting turn. As I'm writing this review, I want to go ahead and read the second book in the series just to find out what happens. With that being said, this book wasn't one that I immediately had to pick up and read every chance I get. One of the main reasons why it wasn't like that was because the leading man was naturally bad. It was in his nature. So for me it almost seemed like he was never going to be able to change. Then again I haven't read the second book, Consume. So I don't have a full understanding of what is going to happen. I love Shelly Crane! I'm saving a specific time to review her Significance series. But this series hasn't done it for me. I'm a dedicate fan of hers so I am going to finish this series. I want to love it, I really do, but it didn't capture me like her other books.

Memorable Mondays!

Mmm Memorable Monday!

As Melanie fills Wanderer's thoughts with visions of Jared, a human who still lives in hiding, Wanderer begins to yearn for a man she's never met. Reluctant allies, Wanderer and Melanie set off to search for the man they both love.
Featuring one of the most unusual love triangles in literature, THE HOST
is a riveting and unforgettable novel about the persistence of love and the essence of what it means to be human.

The Host: A Novel by Stephanie Meyer
Pages: 651

Melanie Stryder refuses to fade away. The earth has been invaded by a species that take over the minds of human hosts while leaving their bodies intact. Wanderer, the invading "soul" who has been given Melanie's body, didn't expect to find its former tenant refusing to relinquish possession of her mind.

My Thoughts

The Host is an incredible read. For some reason, I always like to say where I got it from. My older sister read it after finishing the Twilight Saga and fell in love with it. She kept on telling me to read it, but I never wanted to. Finally, I didn't have a book to read, so I picked this one up. Let me tell you, you will not put it down, I didn't! To be honest, it was a little slow in the beginning, but once it started it was worth it. The love triangle actually it was more of a love square! Talk about confusing, but interesting. Stephanie Meyer did an amazing job articulating (wow big word) the dynamic of all of the four characters. One of the main reasons I love this book is that it tells you what happens, but still leaves a little mystery. Sometimes I like when the author leaves the ending a little bit open-ended so I can let my imagination run wild. I do wish there was a sequel for it. There is a movie. It was absolutely fantastic. Even though not everything was the same, they pretty much got it all in there. Definitely buy this book and rent the movie!

Flirty Friday!

Let's get our flirt on with Flirty Friday!

The Unofficial Zack Warren Fan Club by J.C. Isabella
Pages: 230

Welcome to the big leagues. To secrets and scandals. It's all about the game. Who's playing. Who's not. Who has no idea about the game. And...wait, what game are we playing?

I'll leave that for you to decide.

Where to start is the big question for Chloe Baker. How was she supposed to explain to Zack Warren that she started a fan club for him when she was a kid? It was just a game. A way to make friends and have fun. She never thought it would spiral out of control. And never. In a million, gazillion years, did she think it would follow her to college. How could she tell him her best friend Lana kept the club alive? That she had nothing to do with the craziness?

Chloe didn't understand why she cared so much about Zack's opinion of her. She hated him. He hated her. They had very mutual feelings of dislike for each other. So he'd just hate her even more when or if he found out.

And that's totally fine...she thinks.

Zack Warren had a soft spot for Chloe Baker. He likes the way she walks. He likes the way she talks. If he was poetically inclined, he'd write a sonnet about her ass.

It's Zack's junior year of college. He's got things to worry about. Scouts from the major leagues. Baseball games. Contracts. Grades.... His father ran away to Vegas with Chloe's mother. He didn't have time to worry about a girl. But he did. He worried about Chloe a lot, especially with that jerk Max sniffing around her. It's weird though, to like your stepsister, right?

But Zack could argue that he saw Chloe first. Way before his dad met her mom. He was too young to stake a claim. But he doesn't care anymore.

He's done playing games.

My Thoughts
Last summer, my sister and I were trying to find books to read, (She always makes me read them first to see if they're any good) we got The Unofficial Zack Warren Fan Club for free, I believe. Anyways it was such a cute and sweet read. To be honest I thought it was kind of weird and unrealistic for their to be a fan club in college, but hey I'm one of those that believes books are supposed to take you to a whole new world, and if that world happens to be unrealistic I'm fine with that. I thought it was cool and weird that their parents end up together which then causes them to profess their undying love for one another. *Dramatic much* But it was still interesting. I don't know if I could date my stepbrother if I had one. I mean he would see you at your worst. That's freaking scary! I aint beautiful in the mornings like in the movies. I'm a hot mess. and I don't mean 'good' hot I mean erglyy hot! It's so sad how he finds about the fan club. I felt so embarrassed, I even turned red while reading it. You know that means the author is doing her job. Overall It was a fun and cute book.

Thoughtful Thursdays

It's Thoughtful Thursday !
Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers
Pages:482

A Story of Love That Won't Let Go - No Matter What!

California’s gold country, 1850. A time when men sold their souls for a bag of gold and women sold their bodies for a place to sleep.

Angel expects nothing from men but betrayal. Sold into prostitution as a child, she survives by keeping her hatred alive. And what she hates most are the men who use her, leaving her empty and dead inside.

Then she meets Michael Hosea, a man who seeks his Father’s heart in everything. Michael obeys God’s call to marry Angel and to love her unconditionally. Slowly, day by day, he defies Angel’s every bitter expectation, until despite her resistance, her frozen heart begins to thaw.

But with her unexpected softening comes overwhelming feelings of unworthiness and fear. And so Angel runs. Back to the darkness, away from her husband’s pursuing love, terrified of the truth she no longer can deny: Her final healing must come from the One who loves her even more than Michael does…the One who will never let her go.

A powerful retelling of the story of Gomer and Hosea, Redeeming Love is a life-changing story of God’s unconditional, redemptive, all-consuming love.

My Thoughts

My mother suggested this book to me. She knew I loved romance, but she wouldn't buy me another book(this was before I could buy my own.) I was spending her money left and right, oops. This is the only book I've read from Francine Rivers, but my whole family loves her!! Anyways, Redeeming Love is based on a narrative in the Bible.(Disclaimer: This book's genre is Christian, written by a Christian author but in no shape or form is written as doctrine.) The narrative is in the book Hosea. Hence, the name Michael Hosea. The Christian man. Another swoon worthy man. I was immediately drawn into his character and his morals. This book made me cry from beginning to end. In the beginning I cried out of sadness towards the end they were joyful tears. Now this book contains some mature talk so I wouldn't advise anyone under the age of 15 to read it. My sister wouldn't because she couldn't handle the strong violence and the rape that was put into this book. So if you're like that, this book would not be best for you. But, its also filled with romance through it all. The relationship between Michael and Angel is one that makes me want to pull my hair out. I couldn't understand why the woman wouldn't just stay with him! I mean he's PERFECT! *totally kidding* But there was a point to the pull and push of the relationship. In the Bible narrative, Gomer runs away from Hosea and He has to constantly get her back. Gomer represented Israel. They constantly need chasing to bring them back to the Lord. In Redeeming Love, we see that same type of game. The ending result is my absolute favorite. I read this book in 9th grade and ever since I've made it my mission to read it at least once a year. I've read it a total of 5 times and every time I still get surprised. It's a great read. There's love and fights. If you're for a good Bible story with a twist, this is the book to read. (;
