A Story of Love That Won't Let Go - No Matter What!

California’s gold country, 1850. A time when men sold their souls for a bag of gold and women sold their bodies for a place to sleep.

Angel expects nothing from men but betrayal. Sold into prostitution as a child, she survives by keeping her hatred alive. And what she hates most are the men who use her, leaving her empty and dead inside.

Then she meets Michael Hosea, a man who seeks his Father’s heart in everything. Michael obeys God’s call to marry Angel and to love her unconditionally. Slowly, day by day, he defies Angel’s every bitter expectation, until despite her resistance, her frozen heart begins to thaw.

But with her unexpected softening comes overwhelming feelings of unworthiness and fear. And so Angel runs. Back to the darkness, away from her husband’s pursuing love, terrified of the truth she no longer can deny: Her final healing must come from the One who loves her even more than Michael does…the One who will never let her go.

A powerful retelling of the story of Gomer and Hosea, Redeeming Love is a life-changing story of God’s unconditional, redemptive, all-consuming love.

My Thoughts

My mother suggested this book to me. She knew I loved romance, but she wouldn't buy me another book(this was before I could buy my own.) I was spending her money left and right, oops. This is the only book I've read from Francine Rivers, but my whole family loves her!! Anyways, Redeeming Love is based on a narrative in the Bible.(Disclaimer: This book's genre is Christian, written by a Christian author but in no shape or form is written as doctrine.) The narrative is in the book Hosea. Hence, the name Michael Hosea. The Christian man. Another swoon worthy man. I was immediately drawn into his character and his morals. This book made me cry from beginning to end. In the beginning I cried out of sadness towards the end they were joyful tears. Now this book contains some mature talk so I wouldn't advise anyone under the age of 15 to read it. My sister wouldn't because she couldn't handle the strong violence and the rape that was put into this book. So if you're like that, this book would not be best for you. But, its also filled with romance through it all. The relationship between Michael and Angel is one that makes me want to pull my hair out. I couldn't understand why the woman wouldn't just stay with him! I mean he's PERFECT! *totally kidding* But there was a point to the pull and push of the relationship. In the Bible narrative, Gomer runs away from Hosea and He has to constantly get her back. Gomer represented Israel. They constantly need chasing to bring them back to the Lord. In Redeeming Love, we see that same type of game. The ending result is my absolute favorite. I read this book in 9th grade and ever since I've made it my mission to read it at least once a year. I've read it a total of 5 times and every time I still get surprised. It's a great read. There's love and fights. If you're for a good Bible story with a twist, this is the book to read. (;
